Thom holds a degree in Interior Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, a NCIDQ Certificate, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Thom began his design career as a designer for a commercial architecture and design firm, where he developed his architectural drafting and CAD skills, as well as extensive construction knowledge. Thom then honed his design skills with an established NY residential design firm, where he worked for 14 years as Principal Designer of high end residences, designing homes predominantly in NYC, Greenwich and the Hamptons. Concurrently, Thom established his own design firm in NYC. Thom then accepted an opportunity to work as the Principal Designer/Design Studio Manager with Tineke Triggs/Artistic Designs for Living, in San Francisco, where he brought his New York flair to the West Coast. With a desire to work independently, Thom then established his CA design practice, with clients wanting a fresh take on the California look. In addition to working with his own clients, Thom also provides consulting design services for Suzanne Tucker/Tucker & Marks.
Based in San Francisco, Thom works closely with clients in the Bay area, having designed numerous projects in northern California since 2016. Thom has relished the opportunity to expand his design portfolio throughout the Bay Area, designing homes in San Francisco, Mill Valley, Ross, San Mateo, Hilllsborough, Berkeley, Atherton and Saratoga. Thom is frequently in New York City, Lake Tahoe, Los Angeles and Palm Springs, where he also continues his design business.
Thom’s design sense has been formed by his love of the aesthetics of historical, traditional and contemporary design, his appreciation for quality craftsmanship, and his understanding of the technical aspects required of the most state-of-the-art interiors. Thom combines his understanding of the importance of proper lighting, the psychology and impact of color, and his passion for extraordinary fabrics, furniture and finishes, to create some of the most beautiful, comfortable and inviting environments.
